Willkommen in Deutschland

A bit more tired than we had anticipated, we disembarked off our red-eye flight to Frankfurt, picked up our luggage and doggy, Kichiro, and made it through customs without a hitch.  We waited a bit for our shuttle and were surprised by the landscape that greeted us out the windows of the passenger van.  Rolling hills filled with rows of grapevines, speckled with spires of churches and castle-like ruins dazzled our eyes. We had not arrived in the land of beer, as we had anticipated, but instead in the wine country of Germany.  Grand rivers wound through the countryside and every exit on the autobahn provided entry to villages with unique architecture and the ringing tones of church bells. Even the delay brought by the overheating of our shuttle engine couldn’t dull the wonder in our eyes and the joy in our hearts. The croons of Kyle’s acoustic guitar made the time pass quickly. A new shuttle arrived, we dropped off our bags at our temporary home, visited a cellphone shop to connect us to the world, and returned homeward to sink into our pillows.
